GEO Score Check: Test Your AI Visibility Online for Free

GEO Score Check: test your AI visibility online for free – Digital Targets Blog

With the GEO Score Check you can now test for free and without sign-up whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can understand a web page and cite it as a source. Enter an address and in about 30 seconds you get a score from 0 to 100, the points in 6 areas and the 3 improvements that add the most. The checker works for any website, including sites that do not run on WordPress.

Key takeaways

  • The GEO Score Check rates a web page with 27 checks in 6 areas and awards 0 to 100 points
  • Free, no account, no cookies, up to 10 checks per hour
  • Works for any publicly accessible website: WordPress, Shopify, PrestaShop, WooCommerce or custom code
  • Uses the same rules as the free GEO Score WordPress plugin, which checks every page of a website at once
  • From 90 points a page counts as AI-ready, below 70 as weak

What is the GEO Score Check?

Our GEO Score Check is a free online tool that tests a single web page for how well AI search engines can read, understand and cite it. GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization: optimising content for AI answers rather than only for classic search results. We developed the tool in Larnaka, Cyprus, out of our daily work on AI and GEO projects and make it available to every website owner under AI Tools.

The checker loads the page once, just as a visitor or an AI crawler would, and applies 27 rules. It reads company, author and page type directly from the page. There is no external service behind it, no API key and no data is passed on.

Why is a good Google ranking no longer enough?

A good Google ranking is no longer enough because more and more people have their questions answered directly by AI systems instead of working through a list of results. ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews name only a few sources. A business that does not appear there loses enquiries, even if its page ranks first on Google.

AI systems prefer pages that answer a question in the first sentences, back up facts with sources, provide structured data and are readable for crawlers without JavaScript. Classic SEO tools do not check this. That is exactly the gap the GEO Score Check closes. Our guide Get Visible in ChatGPT & Co. explains how to prepare your content for AI search in general.

What exactly does the GEO Score Check test?

The checker applies 27 rules in 6 weighted areas that add up to 100 points. The weighting reflects what influences AI systems most: the answer format counts the most, while technical crawlability is a prerequisite that alone does not earn citations.

AreaPointsExamples of checks
GEO answer format30Short answer at the top, questions as headings, bold answer sentence under each heading, self-contained sections
Structured data20Organization, website and page in the schema, schema matching the page type, FAQPage
Facts & sources15Concrete figures, sources for legal and statistical claims, visible update date
Authority15Author named and linked, consistent company and place details, legal notice and contact, linked profiles
Structure & readability10Exactly one H1, no skipped heading levels, tables or lists, short paragraphs
AI crawlability10Indexable, AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt, llms.txt present, content in the HTML instead of loaded by JavaScript

How does the check work in practice?

All you need is the address of the page you want to test and about half a minute. No account, email address or installation is required.

  1. Open the GEO Score Check and enter the full address, for example your home page or an important service page.
  2. Click “Check GEO Score”. The tool loads the page, the robots.txt and the llms.txt of your website.
  3. Read the score, the rating per area and the 3 most important improvements. Each one shows how many points it adds.
  4. Open “All checks” if you want to see each of the 27 rules with its explanation.
  5. Make the improvements and check the page again. Results are cached for up to 24 hours so the same page is not loaded repeatedly.

Example from our own website: our home page scored 96 out of 100 in the check. The two notes were “Tables, lists or steps missing” (up to 2.5 points) and “Only 1 profile linked via sameAs” (up to 1.8 points). Both can be fixed in a few minutes. The “About us” page scored 98. So for every page you see at once whether the biggest lever lies in the text, in the structured data or in the technology.

How do you read the result correctly?

A score of 90 or more means the page meets the key requirements for AI search engines; below 70, AI systems can only use it to a limited extent. What matters is less the number than the list of improvements below it.

  • 90–100 points: AI-ready. Keep the update date and facts current.
  • 70–89 points: room for improvement. Usually short answers, questions as headings or structured data are missing.
  • below 70 points: weak. Often the robots.txt blocks AI crawlers or the content is only loaded by JavaScript.

A high score does not guarantee a mention in ChatGPT or Gemini. It shows that the requirements are met. Whether a page is actually cited also depends on the question, the competition and how well known your business is.

Online check or WordPress plugin: which one when?

Use the online check for a quick look at single pages and the free GEO Score plugin for continuous monitoring of an entire WordPress website. Both use the same 27 rules, so you can compare the results directly.

What data does the GEO Score Check store?

The checker sets no cookies, uses no external service and stores only what is needed to prevent misuse. To enforce the limit of 10 checks per hour, a pseudonymised value of your IP address is stored for one hour, and the result of a check for up to 24 hours. The tested page is fetched once, just as a visitor would open it. Further details are in our privacy policy.

On request, we send you the full report with all 27 checks by email, for example to forward to your web designer. We only use your email address with your consent: to send the report once and to contact you about this result.

How do you improve your GEO Score fastest?

The fastest way to improve the score is to apply the 3 measures the tool lists at the top of the result, because they add the most points. From our checks we know the levers that most pages are missing:

  • A bold short answer in the first 2 to 3 sentences directly below the H1
  • Subheadings phrased as questions, each followed by a sentence that answers the question
  • A visible update date and a named, linked author
  • Structured data for organisation, page and FAQ
  • Allow AI crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot in the robots.txt and create an llms.txt

The basics for Google remain important: a page that is technically clean and found on Google also has better chances with AI systems. Our guide SEO Basics shows what matters.

Frequently asked questions

Is the GEO Score Check really free?

Yes. The GEO Score Check is free and works without sign-up. You need neither an account nor an email address. Enter the address of a page and see the result straight away in your browser, with the score, the 6 areas, the 3 most important improvements and all 27 checks. The limit is 10 checks per hour.

Does the checker also work for Shopify, PrestaShop or Wix?

Yes. The online check fetches the public page and rates the HTML that AI crawlers see as well. That is why it works with any platform, for example Shopify, PrestaShop, WooCommerce or a custom-built website. The only requirement is that the page is publicly accessible without a login.

Why does my page get a low score despite good rankings?

Google rates different things than AI systems. A page can rank well on Google but have no short answer, no questions as headings and no structured data. AI systems need exactly that to cite a passage. The score reveals this gap. The 3 most important improvements in the result tell you where to start.

Can I also check competitors’ pages?

Yes, any publicly accessible page can be checked. This is useful to see how well competitors are prepared for AI search and where you can overtake them with comparatively little effort. Please keep to the limit of 10 checks per hour so the service stays fast for everyone.

How is the checker different from the GEO Score WordPress plugin?

The online check tests a single page and reads company, author and page type from the page itself. The free GEO Score plugin checks every page of a WordPress website with your own company data, adds missing structured data and creates the llms.txt. Both use the same 27 rules, so the results are comparable.

What happens to my data after the check?

Very little. The checker sets no cookies and uses no external service. A pseudonymised value of your IP address is stored for one hour to limit the number of checks, and the result for up to 24 hours so the same page is not loaded again. After that the data is deleted. Only if you request the report by email and give consent do we store your email address with the result until you ask for deletion.
